friday five Brad/Ray fanfic recs IV

(I here, II here, III here. again, note: randomly chosen from my long list of favourites, choosing quotes is hard because I don’t want to spoil the story or beautiful lines by taking them out of context. also, i’ve tried to not rec the same authors as previous weeks simply because i’m assuming if you like a story, you do what i always do and check out the rest of their work. right?)

Ray has a daughter and never joins the Marines. He ends up meeting Brad anyway (of course!).

“You’re a menace to society, Ray,” Brad tells him after a particularly long story about how Ray had woken up late, rushed Sam all through their morning, and only just made it to her Day Care on time.

“Yeah but you should’ve seen it, man, it was beautiful,” Ray says. “I was the fucking ninja of the fathering world this morning. Nothing can get in my way,” he yells as he jumps dramatically over a crack in the sidewalk.

Brad stops beside him, “Nothing but, oh I don’t know,” he starts, reaching over to run a couple fingers along Ray’s neck, near his ear. Ray stops breathing; he can feel that touch shoot straight down to his crotch. When Brad pulls his fingers back there’s something on them. He smells it, and then sticks his fingers in his mouth. Ray finds it obscene and fuck if his dick isn’t stirring.

“Mmm,” Brad says, removing his fingers from his mouth. “Banana.”

With a put-upon sigh, Brad bent down to scoop Ray into a fireman’s hold. “I can’t believe I forgot how much of an imbecile you are.”

“I’m right about Tarantino,” Ray says. He peels out of the driveway a little faster than is strictly necessary and Brad watches his fingers tap the wheel hyperactively. “Walt agrees.”

“Walt agrees to shut you the fuck up, Ray,” Brad says. He unpacks all the metal on his body and reaches down between his legs for the inconspicuous black pack, formerly a camera bad. He curses the ridiculously tiny car again as he nearly knees himself in the nose.

“Walt knows I’m right. Toe-sucking pervert is gay as the day is long, homes.”

“Ray, you could make eating pussy gay.”

“Well, it’s pretty fuckin’ gay if a chick does it.”

“Point,” Brad says. Can’t argue with that. He zips the little camera bag and does not feel lighter without the weight of his weapons.

Brad/Ray teenage/bff au

Now Ray reads everything, from Steven King to Dickinson to Vonnegut. He’ll go through Brad’s bookshelf and pick out something at random, take it home or lay on Brad’s bed for hours until he finishes it. One day, Brad catches him sprawled out across his bed, his white t-shirt riding up his back, so completely lost in whatever he’s reading. He almost wants to grab Ray and kiss him until they both can’t breathe, until his lips hurt from kissing him so much, straddle his hips and grind against him until they both come in their pants, but he doesn’t. Ray hates being interrupted in the middle of a book.

The library, as it turns out, is Brad’s one weakness.

Brad looks at him, face still and cold, alien. “We’re both animals. You’re prey.”

Ray’s still for just a moment. And then he moves again, suddenly smiling, rolling his eyes so hard they almost hurt. “Yeah, whatever, Edward. Enough with the emo teenage bullshit, God. How old are you again?” His heart’s still pounding, but he feels so calm.
